About The Founder

A pioneer in the IT managed services provider (MSP) space, Joe began his career in 1993 building the IT department for an well-respected environmental consulting firm from scratch. His tech leadership positions began just two years later managing the network services team at a value added reseller (VAR). In 1998, Joe began his executive life as CIO at a Boston-based multinational design/build firm. He returned to the same VAR for his final executive position where he ran all of services and technology, overseeing exponential growth and evolving the culture from churn-and-burn to satisfaction and retention.

In 2004, Joe founded JPMerc & Co. because the outsourced IT model was broken and he firmly believed that he knew how to fix it. He created The Complete IT Department (originally The Virtual IT Department) to mimic the best aspects of the Fortune 500 IT department model for clients of every size. Joe’s vision earned a founding seat on the board of The MSP Alliance, the world’s largest industry association for cloud computing and managed services professionals. He continues as a regular expert on panels and speaks at tech conferences while having served on boards of prominent MSP vendors.

Joe learned how to lead effective teams through playing and coaching youth sports and eventually through coaching and officiating at the college level. That passion continues as a he remains a junior and college hockey referee. Joe’s personal love of music drove hi, to run a local non-profit live music venue for over a decade. The proceeds from concerts with internationally celebrated artists have funded dozens of local charities. He shares his love of music, fine food, and a passion for life with his wife and four daughters at their home in Southborough, MA.
